The Punjab University has initiated itself into the mission of spreading the enlightenment over the whole world. It has the long history of good academic excellence and good performance track record. So the Punjab University has earned the international fame and recognition. The Punjab University is considered to be one of the best old and recognized universities in the northwest India. The Punjab University is situated in Chandigarh. Till now, this university having the capacity of 122 affiliated colleges which are situated all over Chandigarh and the Punjab. However, to add extra luster to the infrastructure of the university, the sports department of PU has claimed Rs. 8.5 crores.

Punjab University, Chandigarh consists of Academic Staff College, Hostel to upgrade the infrastructure. In this connection, Dr Lajpat Rai Munger, NRI, has contributed land, building and infrastructure to the university to keep in touch with other international universities. Of late the Punjab University has celebrated diamond jubilee celebrations in the New Year to promote the higher studies and qualitative education for the betterment of the students. One who is interested in Oceanography and Geopolitics can seek for the admission at The Indian Ocean Research Group (IORG) which is situated around the Center for the Study of Geopolitics, the Punjab University. NABARD has also taken some initiatives to make some improvement to the infrastructure of the Punjab University. So far as the courses are concerned, there is well arrangement of the courses being conducted through the Distance Education process. In this connection, a compulsory environment education course was inducted at the post graduate level by Punjab University, Chandigarh. Those who want to get admission in the field of medicine they have to appear for CET (common entrance test and aptitude test). Recently, a nine-month (three-semester) course for female students is also introduced at the premises of Al-Mawrid.
