Getting around Chandigarh

Chandigarh is one of the easiest Indian cities to get around, thanks to its grid and wide roads. Here is how locals do it.

Local buses

Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) runs local and tricity buses, including a growing electric fleet, linking the sectors with Mohali, Panchkula and Zirakpur. Routes are numbered; ask at a bus stand or check the CTU route list. Passes are available for students, staff and regular commuters.

Autos and cabs

Autos run everywhere; agree the fare first or use an app. App cabs and bike taxis are widely available.

Cycling and walking

The city has a network of cycle tracks (the V8 roads) and footpaths through the green belts (V7). Early mornings are the best time to ride. See how the V roads work.

Long-distance buses

  • ISBT 17, next to the city centre.
  • ISBT 43, the larger terminal in the south. Check which terminal your bus leaves from.

Trains

Chandigarh Railway Station is on the eastern side of the city, near Daria and Mani Majra, with fast trains to Delhi and services across North India. Panchkula and Mohali are also served by nearby stations.

Airport

Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport is south of the city, reached by the airport road. Allow extra time in the morning and evening rush.

Metro

A metro for the tricity has been proposed for years, but there is no metro yet.
