Tips for the hills
- Leave early: hill roads fill up by mid-morning on weekends.
- In the monsoon (July to September), check road conditions before driving to Himachal; landslides can close roads.
- Book overnight buses to Manali and Dharamshala ahead in summer and on long weekends.
Getting out of town
- Trains leave from Chandigarh Railway Station; Kalka station is the start of the toy train to Shimla.
- Long-distance buses use ISBT 17 and ISBT 43. Check which one your bus uses.
- Flights leave from Chandigarh International Airport.
